Housing Authority of Williamsburg’s goal is to provide eligible families and individuals with adequate and affordable housing in a clean, safe, drug-free and suitable living environment — without discrimination. 

The Housing Authority shall determine the appropriate unit size for each applicant or resident household according to its occupancy standards, household size, household composition, and applicable fair housing requirements. In general, the Housing Authority will assign the smallest unit size necessary to house the family without overcrowding. The Housing Authority  considers age, sex, relationship of household members, disability-related needs, need for a live-in aide, pregnancy, custody arrangements, and other verified circumstances when determining the appropriate bedroom size.

The Housing Authority may deny admission to an applicant household when the household fails to meet HUD eligibility requirements, fails to provide required documentation, provides false or incomplete information, exceeds applicable income limits, owes money to a housing authority, has a history of serious lease violations, or when any household member has engaged in activity that would threaten the health, safety, or peaceful enjoyment of residents, staff, or the property. The Housing Authority shall deny admission when required by HUD regulations, including certain drug-related activity, methamphetamine production in federally assisted housing, lifetime sex offender registration, current illegal drug use, or alcohol abuse that threatens others.
