To apply for residency here at the Housing Authority of Williamsburg, apply here on our website. All applications are taken online ONLY.

Required Documentation:
The Housing Authority of Williamsburg accepts applications from eligible low-income families, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and eligible individuals who meet HUD income limits, citizenship or eligible immigration status requirements, and the Housing Authority’s admission and screening criteria. Eligibility is based on household income, family size, household composition, required documentation, and compliance with applicable HUD and Housing Authority of Williamsburg policies.
Application– Applicant must have completed the online application with all documents that is required uploaded or copies.
Interview and verification– The HAW will verify all applicable information according to policy. Once all documentation has been verified, and if the applicant is found eligible, the status will change from pending to eligible.
Waiting List- The family is placed on the waiting list according to type and size of unit needed, preferences and date and time the application was received.
The time frame varies depending on the number of vacancies and how many people are applying for housing. The waiting list also varies depending on which bedroom size for which you are qualified.
Every applicant is subject to our screening process that includes, but is not limited to a criminal background check and former tenancy history. Applicants that owe a housing authority, HUD or any other federally subsidized program funds will not be processed for occupancy. The applicant must first pay the funds owed prior to the application being processed. After the application is processed, the applicant must meet all other conditions for occupancy. Repayment of funds that are due, does not necessarily qualify an applicant for occupancy.,
The HAW does not provide emergency housing.
Your rent is determined by a HUD calculation using a combination of your income minus allowable deductions; the resident pays 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent.
Rent is due on the first (1st), day of each month. If rent is not received after the seventh (7th), day of the month, the resident will be issued a 30-day Lease Termination notice and charged a late fee of $35.00.
The HAW DOES NOT accept cash. Rent must be paid monthly on our website at www.williamsburghousingauthority.com through the Payment Portal. If payment cannot be made online, the HAW will only accept a Money Order or Cashier’s Check made out to the Housing Authority of Williamsburg.
If you are moving out, you must complete a written notice of Intent to Vacate thirty (30) days prior to your moving date. Apartment must be cleaned including inside and outside of all appliances.
